The New Deal Grandchildren Speak

THE NEW DEAL SHAPED AMERICA IN THE 20TH CENTURY–WILL IT ADAPT TO THE 21ST?

NEW DEAL GRANDCHILDREN SPEAK

The NNDPA Board of Directors elected in 2015 to hold an annual conference and feature the stories about grandparents of FDR’s Cabinet and close associates on the program.  This has proven to be most interesting.

The 2016 participants included David Douglas-grandson of Henry Wallace, T.J. Walker-grandson of Frank Walker; Tomlin Coggeshall-grandson of Frances Perkins; Dave Giffen-great-grandson of Harry Hopkins and Nina Roosevelt Gibson, granddaughter of FDR. This was held in Santa Fe, NM.

In 2017 the conference was held in Hyde Park, NY and Douglas, Walker and Coggeshall shared more with James Roosevelt, FDR grandson and board member, Chris Breiseth read  June
Hopkins’ speech since she was not able to attend at the last minute. She is granddaughter of Harry Hopkins.

The 2018 conference in Berkeley, CA had a different focus but included one grandson, John Boettinger with various speakers focusing on “The Women and the Spirit of the New Deal.” Based on this
program, the NNDPA Board has produced a new book on this subject which is available to order on this website.
